Jamie Caroline takes double win for Pirtek Racing

Pirtek Racing’s Jamie Caroline was the star of the weekend with two dominant victories in round seven and eight of the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at Oulton Park (6/7 June). Jamie’s crushing display has moved him up to second in the championship standings.

Caroline, 16 years-old, has been selected by Pirtek Racing and Andrew Jordan for support in the series for young racers and is among the key championship contenders with the HHC Motorsport squad.

Jamie was right in the mix in qualifying on Saturday and ended the session second fastest, only a tenth of a second away from pole position. Importantly, he was ahead of all his key title rivals on the grid for round seven. “That’s much better,” said Jamie. “It’s good to be back at the front and the changes we’ve made to the car have made the difference.”

Both races ran on Sunday in front of live TV cameras and a huge crowd estimated at 30,000.  “I’m very confident for the races,” said Jamie on Sunday morning. His confidence was well placed and he blasted ahead at the first corner and was more than three seconds clear of his rivals by the end of the opening lap. In the course of eight laps he built a winning margin of over eight seconds, a very unusual gap in the hard-fought championship. “That was a great drive by Jamie,” said Ginetta boss Lawrence Tomlinson.

The story was similar for round eight later in the afternoon. Jamie started from pole position and had to defend his place from Dan Zelos on the rush to the first corner. Once ahead Jamie was able to control the race and was comfortably clear when the safety car came out for the final three laps.

“I came here wanting to get two wins,” said a jubilant Jamie after his best weekend of the 2015 season.  Importantly, the double win has moved Jamie from fifth to second place in the points’ table and he closed the gap to leader Senna Proctor from 36 to 21 points. Jamie now has a short break before the schedule continues at Croft in North Yorkshire on 27/28 June.
