Frustrating Rockingham for Jordan and Pirtek Racing

07/09/2015 | Racing

Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan endured a tough weekend at Rockingham (5/6 September) during rounds 22, 23 and 24 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. With a car that did not have the speed needed to challenge at the head of the action, Andrew battled home for a best result of sixth place.

Andrew was racing the works MG6 GT run by Triple Eight Racing at the Corby track and believes he got the maximum out of the car, but could only finish sixth, twelfth and ninth across the three races.

In qualifying, Andrew posted tenth best time with a lap that was half a second away from pole position. But even in qualifying he knew that race day would be tough as the car just didn’t have the speed to match the quicker cars.

In the opening race he benefitted when a couple of other drivers had delays or pit stops and worked through to finish sixth. However, the car’s true pace was made apparent when his best race lap in the first race left Andrew down in 11th place on the grid for race two.

In the second race, things got worse at the first corner when contact from another car sent him wide and cost Andrew several more places and pushed him right down to 17th place. He battled on, and made up some places as the race developed, but 12th place was the best that was available.

From 12th place on the grid for the third and final race, Andrew managed to break into the top 10 to claim ninth place. It was not the set of results that Andrew wanted and he has now dropped further back in the championship points. While still holding fifth place in the points’ table, he is now 46 points adrift of championship leader Gordon Shedden with six races left to run.

“I’ve just driven round all day trying to stay out of trouble and waiting for people to fall off or wreck their tyres so that I can move up a few places,” said Andrew. “It’s not the way I want to go racing.”
