Dominant Caroline takes Croft double for Pirtek

Pirtek Racing’s Jamie Caroline dominated rounds nine and ten of the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at Croft over the weekend (27/28 June) to sweep ahead in the championship standings.  While his rivals battled, Jamie raced clear to win both races and build a 30-point championship lead.

Caroline, 16 years-old, has been selected by Pirtek Racing and Andrew Jordan for support in the series for young racers and is racing with the HHC Motorsport squad. He arrived at the North Yorkshire track on the back of a double win at Oulton Park and was immediately setting the pace. He was fastest in free practice on Saturday morning and then qualified second fastest, missing pole position by a tenth of a second.

The weekend’s first Ginetta Junior ran on Saturday afternoon and Jamie was able to make it three wins in a row as he battled ahead of polesitter Sophia Floersch to win by just half a second after a very competitive race. The pair of cars from HHC Motorsport pulled clear of the rest of the pack and to compound Jamie’s joy, former championship leader Senna Proctor had a tough race and could only finish down in 13th place.

The weekend’s second race ran in front of a packed crowd and live TV cameras on Sunday afternoon and Jamie got a perfect start to lead into the first corner. As his rivals battled for second place, he immediately pulled clear but his lead was negated when the safety car was deployed while a damaged car was moved.

From the re-start, Jamie once again went instantly clear as the rest of the pack battled and he simply romped clear to win by the massive margin of 12 seconds as up to 10 cars battled over second place. “I got the jump off the start and didn’t have to defend into the first corner,” he said of the race start. “Then I had to do it again after the safety car.

“I’m really pleased,” said Jamie after making it four wins in a row. “We had a tough start to the season but HHC have done a mega job with the car and we’re back to winning ways!” Now comes the championship’s mid-season summer break with a six-week gap before the action resumes at Snetterton (8/9 August).
