Jamie Caroline and Pirtek set for Donington challenge

Pirtek-backed teenaged racer Jamie Caroline will continue his bid for success in the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at Donington Park this weekend (18/19 April).

Caroline, who was 16 years-old earlier this year, was selected by Pirtek Racing and Andrew Jordan for support this season as he contests the BTCC-support series for young racers and is one of the key championship contenders with the renowned HHC Motorsport squad.

The season started at Brands Hatch over the Easter weekend and Jamie had a troubled first race at the hands of other drivers. However, he was right in the thick of the action in the second race and battled for the lead. Now, he moves focus to Donington Park where he wants to close down the points’ gap to early championship leader Senna Proctor.

“I was able to show my true pace in the second race at Brands and picked them off,” said Jamie. “I want to score big points at Donington and I think I can take the lead in the championship: that’s certainly my aim for the weekend.

“I really like Donington and I tested there yesterday (Monday 13 April) and we’re there again on Thursday for the official pre-race weekend test. When we ran there yesterday it went really well. We started with good pace and got quicker through the day.”

However, Jamie knows that with a full entry of 25 keen young racers, qualifying near the front of the grid on Saturday afternoon will be essential in what is already proving to be the most competitive season to date for the championship.

The first race starts at 5pm on Saturday with the second race at 1.40pm on Sunday.  Race two will be broadcast live on ITV4 during the extensive BTCC programme.
