Storming the Castle

Watching an established company take the next step up the success ladder is always pleasing. Case in point, Castle Point Motors at Benfleet which recently invested in additional premises, purchasing a nearby office block and converting it into a state of the art repair and MoT centre plus a row of shops. Knowing that Pirtek had a small part in getting things right by providing some innovative installations, was equally satisfying.

Owner Alan Foster admits that, after 10 years of trading, the new premises provide the company with an ideal opportunity to expand, but he wanted to maximise the floor space of the facility. He consulted Pirtek because after using them to supply hoses and hydraulic oil, he had found them professional, fair and reliable. He put his proposals to Pirtek Basildon who demonstrated how to convert those concepts into reality.

That task fell to senior MSST Andy Rosson who enjoys taking on the unusual aspects of Pirtek Basildon’s work. In three days, Rosson had supplied two 205 litre drums of hydraulic oil, fitted them with barrel pumps and piped the supply into the new workshops. This meant that the oil was kept in a safe bunded area, and the only thing exposed in the workshop was the taps, after Rosson had drilled through the wall as part of the installation.

On top of this, he fitted a complete air hose system, airlines and compressor for the workshop. This was constructed from 22 mm John Guest polypipe and incorporated five drops, with T-junction fittings, leading to twin PCL 9E couplings. The system also incorporates 3/4″ wall mounted hose reels. The compressor is also located in the safe bunded area.

Alan Foster was delighted with the installation. “Castle Point has a reputation for fixing things and are always prepared to take on a challenge. If it runs on fuel, we won’t turn it away. We have sorted everything from a lawnmower to a WW2 amphibious DUKW. We even had someone turn up with a 35 tonne low loader once. We already handle commercial vehicles, RVs, coaches and commercial motor homes. But the new premises are aimed at the motorist and we need to provide a good alternative to the main dealers. We go the extra mile to keep the motorist on the road as cheaply as possible. That means we have to be efficient and the new workshops are neat, with no clutter, which makes it so much easier to work in,” he concludes. “The innovative installations that Pirtek have complete increase the engineers working area and make the workshops a pleasure to work in”.
