Caroline and Pirtek head for title decider

Pirtek-backed teenaged racer Jamie Caroline faces the most important weekend of his racing career to date with the final two rounds of the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at Brands Hatch in Kent this weekend (10/11 October).

Caroline, who was 16 years-old earlier this year, was selected by Pirtek Racing and Andrew Jordan for support this season as he contests the BTCC-support series for young racers and is at the top of the championship as he races for the renowned HHC Motorsport.

It has been an outstanding season so far for the teenager with the Pirtek Racing Ginetta in the fiercely competitive championship and he has won nine of the 18 races to date. His major title rival Senna Proctor has taken three race wins, and one of them will be the 2015 champion.

Now comes the final title showdown at a track that Jamie rates as his favourite. The current points’ totals put him just three points ahead of Proctor starting the Brands weekend. However, drivers must drop their two lowest scores of the season in the final reckoning and Jamie will drop a total of just four points, while Proctor has to drop 18 points. With those dropped points factored in, Jamie has an effective 17-point lead for the all-important weekend.

“Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit is my favourite track and it’s good to be going there with a points’ cushion,” he said. However, Jamie will carry a five-place grid penalty into the opening Brands Hatch race following the most recent race weekend at Silverstone. “That will make Brands Hatch harder than it should have been,” he said.

After qualifying at 2.35pm on Saturday afternoon, the first Ginetta Junior race starts at 5.30pm on Saturday with the second race at 12.10pm on Sunday. The second race is due to be broadcast live on ITV4 in the BTCC programme. Event results are at www.tsl-timing.com
