Jordan and Pirtek Racing in the points at Knockhill

Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan scored good points at Knockhill during rounds 19, 20 and 21 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at the Scottish track (23 August). A fourth place and two other top eight finishes have kept Andrew as an outside contender for the 2015 title.

Andrew was racing the works MG6 GT run by Triple Eight Racing at the challenging Scottish track and believes he got the maximum out of the car in front of a huge crowd at the moorland track. “That was probably the best I’ve driven all year and I’m sure I got the best out of the car.”

He qualified eighth fastest, four-tenths of a second away from pole position and, importantly, lapped three-tenths of a second faster than the best MG time from 2014. “The MG is quite a big car for a track like Knockhill and we still need to find more speed,” he said. Eight-tenths of a second covered 23 of the 29 cars on the incredibly close BTCC grid.

In the first race he maintained position to finish eighth but was unable to challenge the cars ahead of him. Then, in race two he started fifth on the grid and finished a strong fourth. “That was as good a result as we were going to get,” he said. “I feel I’m driving at least as well as I did in 2013, but the car is still not quick enough.”

In the third race, from the reverse grid, he started seventh and finished seventh, but only after driving a very defensive race to keep a gaggle of cars at bay.

The weekend’s results leave Andrew fifth in the points and within 30 points of championship leader Jason Plato. “It’s not over yet and we took 11 points out of his lead in Scotland,” added Andrew. “I’m amazed with where we are in the points given the season we’ve had so far!”
