Knockhill next for championship leader Caroline

Pirtek-backed teenaged racer Jamie Caroline will head north to Scotland for the next races in the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship as rounds 13 and 14 run at the challenging Knockhill circuit in Fife this weekend (22/23 August).

Caroline, who was 16 years-old earlier this year, was selected by Pirtek Racing and Andrew Jordan for support this season as he contests the BTCC-support series for young racers and is now leading the championship with the renowned HHC Motorsport.

It has been an incredible summer to date for the teenager in the fiercely competitive championship and the Pirtek Racing Ginetta takes a 22-point championship lead to Scotland. With five wins from the last six races, Jamie is clearly the pacesetter and is determined to maintain, or even extend, his points’ lead at the moorland track. Just six races remain after the annual trip to Scotland and another strong weekend at Knockhill will really set Jamie on course for the title.

However, Knockhill is a notoriously challenging track with significant gradient change and a series of tricky corners packed into a short and hectic lap. Add in the prospect of changeable weather and there is always the potential of drama at a track that has often been pivotal in the destiny of season-long championships.

Like many of his rivals, Jamie does not have a lot of experience of the Scottish track. However, he did contest the Ginetta Junior races there a year ago and came away with mixed results after two action-packed races. At a track where overtaking is never easy, Jamie knows he must get qualifying just right to give himself the best chance of two strong race results.

“I am looking forward to Knockhill,” he says. “I like the track even though I didn’t do well there last year, so I’m saving myself for a big challenge this weekend. It is one of the really important weekends for the championship.”

After qualifying at 2.35pm on Saturday afternoon, the first race starts at 5.40pm on Saturday with the second race at 11am on Sunday.
