Strong Snetterton form for Jordan and Pirtek Racing

Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan claimed two top five finishes at Snetterton during rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at the Norfolk track (8/9 August).

Andrew was racing the works MG6 GT run by Triple Eight Racing and the car was sporting a striking new metallic Pirtek livery as the season resumed after the regular summer break. For Andrew and the team it was a chance to return to front-running pace after a tough weekend last time out at Croft.

Qualifying was incredibly tight with a fifth of a second covering the top six cars on the grid. Andrew posted an excellent fourth best time behind the three Volkswagens of Colin Turkington, Aaron Smith and Jason Plato and lined up just in front of Matt Neal and Andy Priaulx.

“I’m happy with that actually, it was a really nice lap,” said Andrew after qualifying. “We haven’t quite got the legs on the VWs. We’ve got work to do to get on the back of the BMR cars in the race, but we’ve got some ideas on where to find the time.”

Andrew quickly settled into fourth place in the opening race but was unable to make a challenge for third as he also had to defend his place from those behind. “I tried to stay with Jason Plato but had understeer from the start. Then I had to do all I could towards the end of the race to keep Andy Priaulx back as he had looked after his soft tyres. So I was really defensive and the result was not as good as I had hoped.”

He started in eighth position for race two and quickly made progress until contact with Dave Newsham at Agostini’s cost him two places. “The steering was bent after contact with Newsham and it was really hard work just holding on and making the finish for seventh place,” he said.

That meant a seventh place start for the final race in scorching temperatures and Andrew had to run the soft tyre in far from ideal conditions. Given the challenge of soft tyres and hot weather, a fifth place finish was a commendable result but there is still more time to be found in the car yet before Andrew can challenge for more race wins.
