Testing the Water

Formed in 1995 as a result of the merger of North West Water and NORWEB, United Utilities Group is the United Kingdom's largest listed water company. To keep everything 'flowing and going' the company often calls in Pirtek Preston.

The group manages the regulated water and waste water network in North West England including Cumbria, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside, serving a population of nearly 7 million people.

United Utilities' headquarters are in Warrington and the company has 9,000 employees.    United Utilities owns 184 reservoirs and operates some 400 vehicles that are maintained in four workshops.   “Amongst our fleet, which ranges from 3.5 to 33 tonnes, we maintain a fleet of 20 Mercedes and Volvo Crossland Disab jet vac tankers that are used to clear the sewers.   These are always in demand and often the only chance we have of maintaining them is to call them in on a Friday evening, work on them over the weekend so they are ready for the next week.   It's nice to know that Pirtek are always available over the weekend, if we need a part or a replacement hose,” says transport manager Mike Whittaker at the Whitebirk garage in Blackburn.   “They always seem to be able to source any part we need.   We have used Pirtek Preston for years.   They do our ram repairs, hose replacements, PTO hoses, our hydraulics - whatever I need.   The team at Pirtek Preston are prompt, fast and efficient, otherwise we would have had looked for another supplier long ago.   But Pirtek is really on the ball and we get a really good service from them; close to an instant response.”
